VOLUNTEER TORAH READERS APPRECIATION KIDDUSH

Saturday, 31 May, 2025 4 Sivan 5785

9:00 AM - 1:30 PMKBI

The Torah's text consists of only the consonants, and doesn't include vowels, punctuation, or musical notation. All of these must be memorized by the readers and executed word-perfectly on the day. As such, Torah "leining" is a highly specialized skill that requires excellent Hebrew reading, mastery of the traditional melody motifs ("tropes" or "ta'amei hamikra" in Hebrew), time, effort, concentration, and confidence. We are so proud that most of the Torah reading around the year is organized and read by KBI's amazing volunteers.

Please show our more-than-40 volunteer Torah readers, and our Torah Rota organizer, Ilan Shapiro, your deep appreciation by co-sponsoring the Kiddush Lunch on May 31. Also, please let us know if you'll be attending, for catering and housekeeping planning.

New Torah reading volunteers are always welcome, and Cantor Green can teach most of the required skills, as well as provide learning materials (tikkun pages, recordings, and photos from the actual scrolls). Email cantor@kehillatbethisrael.com for more information or to volunteer.
