High Holydays HIGH Virtual Music Video - Donation form

As of three months before the High Holydays this year, we still weren't sure if we'd be able to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in person. We certainly knew the choir would not be able to make a return to the bimah just yet. So I set out on creating another virtual choir celebration for us to enjoy as a community.

But all our previous videos were missing the most important part of that -- the community.  It was just the choir and me on-screen. We wanted to do something extra special this year, and with thanks to a JFO MicroGrant, special funding for new computer equipment by the CBSO Legacy Fund, and participant donations, we were able to turn a large swath of our congregation into a massive Virtual Choir. Over 120 people, from age 2 to 92+, came to KBI over the summer to record a snippet of -- or the entire -- medley of eight Rosh Hashanah favourites. The list included:
  • 20 KBY regular choir members
  • 8 Adult congregants who took on the entire project, joining the regular choristers
  • 45 adult congregants
  • 25 youth congregants
  • 9 families
  • 10 Tamir friends
  • 3 soloists
  • All 3 KBI clergy

It was more than just a recording though, as people entered our beautiful sanctuary, chapel, and social hall for the first time in over a year-and-a-half; chatted with the clergy and staff; heard the shofar; came for minyan before their recording sessions... It was a homecoming... that just happened to result in the video below.
